St. John’s Wort – Hypericum Perforatum
St. John’s Wort owes its name to its flowering season: around June 24th, on St. John’s Day, the plant blossoms at its peak. Its Latin name is Hypericum Perforatum.
Hypericum refers to its traditional use in antiquity, where it was given to overly active children and to people who were restless or chaotic in nature.
Perforatum points to the unique leaves: when held up to the light, tiny perforations appear like little windows, allowing the light to shine through.
Since ancient times, St. John’s Wort has been valued as a natural remedy to support those who struggled to stay cheerful during dark or gloomy days – helping them to “see the light” again.
